What religious faith practices the starving and killing of sheep?

Hello,

I am not trying to come off as ignorant or uninformed, I am just curious since my neighbors next to me keep a sheep in a shed in their backyard and starve it to death as part of their faith.

I would like to make more sense of this practice, since they do not speak English and ignore my attempts to ask them about it.
